DAILY CHEWING STICK: 11TH JULY, 2015.
MEMORIAL OF ST. BENEDICT (Patron against Poisoning).
Good morning dearest friends. How was your night? Welcome to another day of striving for perfection and sainthood. SAINTS ARE THOSE WHO DID THE ORDINARY THINGS OF LIFE IN AN EXTRAORDINARY WAY, AND TODAY, WE CELEBRATE ONE OF THEM – ST. BENEDICT.
St. Benedict was born to a noble family of Rome in 480. He lived in the dark times that came with the collapse of the Roman Empire. There was disorder that brought despair for many people. He lived in a cave in the side of the cliff for three years. His spirituality and love of God brought people to him. HE HAD THE POWER OF MIRACLES. HE ONCE RAISED A DEAD BOY TO LIFE. Is there any particular miracle you seek in your life? Do you have faith? PRAY THROUGH SAINT BENEDICT AND MENTION WHAT IS IT YOU SEEK!
Brethren, When the number of His followers rapidly grew, THEY WERE BUSY EVERYDAY PRAYING, CLEARING THE LAND, PLANTING CROPS, TEACHING IN SCHOOLS, FEEDING THE POOR, ETC. His Motto was: “PRAY & WORK” (Ora et Labora). Benedict & his Monks built a large Monastery on Monte Cassino, on top of the mountain. He had A TWIN SISTER NAMED SCHOLASTICA, WHO BECAME A NUN AND A GREAT SAINT. SHE FOUNDED D BENEDICTINE SISTERS.
Dearly beloved, as we celebrate the BENEDICTINES TODAY, WHAT MESSAGE ARE WE PONDERING ON?
For me, PRAY & WORK is enough food for thought. Some people go to Church daily from morning till evening, praying and singing. HOW DO THEY GET THEIR DAILY BREAD? IS IT NOT SAID THAT HEAVEN HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES?
BENEDICT MADE PHYSICAL LABOUR PART OF HIS RULE AND GAVE DIGNITY TO WORK & TO WORKERS. CHRIST HIMSELF WAS A WORKER, A CARPENTER. ST. PAUL CORROBORATES THIS WHEN HE SAID IN 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10 THAT: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” On the other hand, some people are workaholic, they work, work, work and work and HAVE NO TIME FOR GOD IN PRAYERS. THIS IS ANOTHER EXTREME BECAUSE THEY TAKE JOY & PLEASURE IN DOING THE WORK OF GOD AND ABANDONING THE GOD OF WORK. They work from Monday to Friday, wash their clothes & tidy the house on Saturday and then SLEEP ON SUNDAY WITHOUT EVEN ATTENDING MASS OR CHURCH SERVICE.
Wonderful Child of God, ARE YOU GUILTY OF ANY OF THESE EXTREMES? CHANGE IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS CONSTANT AND PERMANENT.
BEGIN FROM TODAY! God bless you!
