DAILY CHEWING STICK: 17TH AUGUST

Judges 2:11-19, Mtt 19:16-22.

Recalling the first TWO Catechism questions in that small Penny Catechism:

– Who made you?
God made me!

– Why did God make you?
God made me to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him, in this world and to be HAPPY WITH HIM FOREVER IN THE NEXT!

Happiness therefore, is not negotiable. To be with the Lord, is TO BE READY TO BE HAPPY, for that is what ETERNAL LIFE MEANS!

Sing with me please this our nursery school song: Eternal, eternal life x2, I want to live eternal life, God save my soul, I want to live eternal life, God save my soul.

Oh my Saviour, when you come to collect your people, remember me O God, remember me O God, ….!

Brethren, to make this eternal life, WE MUST DO GOOD AND LIVE GOOD LIVES. Little wonder, the young man in the Gospel today walked up to Jesus and asked: TEACHER, WHAT GOOD DEED MUST I DO TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE? Jesus, having found out he was a man who had kept all ALL THE COMMANDMENTS of NOT murdering, fornicating, adultery, stealing, bearing false witness, etc; said to him: IF YOU WISH TO BE PERFECT, GO, SELL ALL YOUR POSSESSIONS, GIVE THE MONEY TO THE POOR, THEN COME AND FOLLOW ME! On hearing this CONDITIO SINE QUA NON (Necessary condition) of entering ETERNAL LIFE, he walked away sad, for he was a man of great wealth.

Beloved in Christ, everybody wants to go to Heaven, but many are not ready to make the sacrifice. Even if you tell some people today, to walk away from the comfort of their wealth and walk into Heaven, DON’T BE SURPRISED MANY PEOPLE WILL NOT WANT TO LEAVE THEIR HARD EARNED WEALTH OOO! Just like the Israelites held unto their SMALLER gods in unfaithfulness to God; so also many of us hold unto things and find it difficult to DETACH from our SMALL gods of passion, wealth, jobs, soccer, and many other things we place in higher regard than God.

MAY ETERNAL LIFE NOT PASS US BY DUE TO OUR ATTACHMENT TO THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD, AMEN.

Good morning & God bless our week!
