DAILY CHEWING STICK: 24TH JULY, 2015.
(Ex20:1-17, Mt 13:18-23)
O Lord open our lips, and our tongues shall declare your praise!
Good morning dearest in the Lord and happy new dawn.
The first reading today caught my attention and I decided we reflect on it reminding us of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!
I remember preaching on one Sunday and asking any YOUTH to mention 10 PLAYERS OF CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB and in less than two minutes, it was successfully done.
I asked another to mention 10 GOVERNORS AND THEIR STATES IN NIGERIA and again it was successfully done.
I also asked for 10 MUSICIANS AND TITLES OF THEIR ALBUMS and again, it was successfully done.
I now asked for THE 10 COMMANDMENTS, but IT WAS UNSUCCESSFULLY DONE!
I simply nodded my head and asked: CAN YOU BARB A MAN IN HIS ABSENCE?
CAN YOU OBSERVE A LAW THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW?
But unfortunately, that Youth is not the only GUILTY ONE, BUT MOST OF US, IF NOT ALL OF US!
HOW MUCH OF THE COMMANDMENTS DO WE KNOW OR REMEMBER? AND HOW MANY DO WE KEEP ACCORDING TO THE MIND OF THE GIVER?
Ignorance they say, IS NOT AN EXCUSE!
Brethren, I can’t imagine the game of football for instance, without a referee or the rules and regulations. It will surely end in chaos. Or how will it be to govern a Country like NIGERIA without Constitution? Even with Constitution, chaos, anarchy, corruption, Boko Haram have not been addressed, LET ALONE! And so, the God who created us, has given us the 10 Commandments TO LEAD US IN THE PATH OF LIFE AND FREEDOM.
Are you following this path or you have your own 10 Commandments?
Once a man went to buy a HONDA PILOT JEEP from a company. The company manager told him plainly: Look Sir; it is a good car; but you must treat it well; you must put petroleum, not any other oil; you must overhaul it once in two months; you must apply oil in the joints. But the buyer replied: Oh no, I can’t bear d smell of petroleum. I will put Champagne which I like very much. I will put jam in the joints. The manager replied: But don’t come and complain that the car is not starting or running well.
Brethren, ARE WE NOT SOMETIMES LIKE THAT BUYER? LET US LOOK AT THE ENGINES OF OUR LIVES VERY WELL AGAIN.
ARE WE PUTTING THE CORRECT PETROLEUM? WHY SO MUCH PROBLEMS & DISASTERS?
GREED has made us break most of the 10 commandments. When people work for you for a month and you refuse to pay them, THAT IS COVETING ONE’S GOOD/PROPERTY out of Greed. Don’t forget that greed is a bottomless pit that exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need, without ever reaching satisfaction.
LET US OBEY GOD’S COMMANDMENTS & OUR LIVES SHALL BE BETTER.
Thank God it’s Friday!!!
