DAILY CHEWING STICK: 29TH JULY-

ST. MARTHA OF BETHANY.

Good morning and Happy Feast Day to ALL MARTHAS!

Her celebration today, re-awakens in us that important aspect of our culture – HOSPITALITY TO OUR GUESTS! I mentioned culture because I know we are all people of culture and have different ways of making our guests comfortable.

The IGBOS OFFER “KOLA”, A SYMBOL OF WELCOME AND LIFE TO THEIR VISITORS.

The YORUBAS OFFER “WATER” AND WE ALL KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER TO A GUEST WHO MUST HAVE BEEN COMING FROM THE SUN.

I am sorry, I don’t know what the HAUSAS offer now, but I know they are wonderful people in that regards, THEIR SUYA WHICH I ENJOY SO MUCH IS A TESTIMONY!

The same thing is applicable to other TRIBES NOT MENTIONED HERE.

Brethren, HOW MUCH OF THIS CULTURE OF HOSPITALITY DO WE STILL PRACTICE TODAY?

HOW DO WE TREAT GUESTS WHO COME TO VISIT US?

WILL YOU LIKE TO VISIT A FRIEND AGAIN, BASED ON THE WAY HE/SHE TREATED YOU THE LAST TIME?

DO YOU EVEN CARE TO OFFER YOUR GUEST GROUNDNUT, CHIN-CHIN, MINERAL/MALT, PHOTO ALBUM, LUNCH OR DINNER?

Beloved, today, we honour one of the FAMILY FRIENDS OF JESUS, MARTHA. Jesus was always delighted to be a guest in the home of MARY, MARTHA & LAZARUS whenever he was in Judea. Like Martha who was very HOSPITABLE TO JESUS, I advice thus: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” JESUS WAS VERY GRATEFUL TO MARTHA, hence, HE LOVED HER, HER SISTER & LAZARUS (John 11:5).

Brethren, Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.

Remember: SMALL CHEER AND GREAT WELCOME MAKES A MERRY FEAST.

May God give us the GRACE to be as hospitable as Martha and PEOPLE OF DEEP FAITH WITH UNBOUNDED TRUST IN THE DIVINE POWERS OF GOD, AMEN.

Happy Mid-Week!!!
