DAILY CHEWING STICK: 6TH AUGUST, 2015.
(FEAST OF TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD).
The spectacular event of Transfiguration is recorded by the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark & Luke) and it is a further and complete affirmation of the identity of Jesus as THE SON OF GOD.
Having been baptized in the gospel of (Mt: 3:13-16), where the Spirit rested on him inform of a dove, He began His public ministry of teaching, preaching, healing and performing miracles of all kinds. He wowed the people that they began to ask: (song): WHAT MANNER OF MAN IS JESUS, ALLELUIA… HE MAKES THE BLIND TO SEE…!
Some others too concluded he was using the power of the DEVIL. However, in (Mt 16:13ff) He turned to His disciples and Caesarea Philipi and asked: WHO DO PEOPLE SAY I AM AND WHO DO YOU SAY I AM? Their answers and silence revealed their insufficient knowledge of Him. Hence, THE TRANSFIGURATION, to further reveal His person to them.
Peter, James and John were taken to the high mountain, and right there, JESUS WAS TRANSFIGURED. The change in Jesus and the sight of Him discussing with MOSES AND ELIJAH (People of high repute), made Peter to ask if he could make THREE TENTS.
Brethren, the central theme of the Transfiguration came with the voice that said: THIS IS MY SON, THE BELOVED; HE ENJOYS MY FAVOUR, LISTEN TO HIM. If the Apostles were to listen to Jesus, WE TOO MUST LISTEN TO HIM. You may want to ask: DOES JESUS STILL SPEAK TO US TODAY AND DO WE LISTEN TO HIM? Yes, He does speaks to us in the following ways and more:
(a) In the Bible.
(b) In the Church’s Ministers.
(c) In Prayer: Dialogue and not monologue, have some time for daily meditation to listen to God.
(d) Through our Good, Tender, Scrupulous & Hardened Conscience. WHAT KIND OF CONSCIENCE DO YOU HAVE?
(e) Through our fellow human beings: Parents, Teachers, People of God (Vox populi, vox Dei- The voice of d people is the voice of God).
(f) Daily Events of our lives
(g) In dreams & Visions, etc! NO ONE WHO LISTENS TO THE SON OF GOD CAN EVER BE LOST.
Oh that today WE LISTEN TO HIS VOICE, may we not harden our hearts, amen!
Good morning & Happy Feast!
