WEEKEND DIGEST: 18TH JULY, 2015.
(Exodus 12:37-42, Psalm 136, Mt 12:14-21).
It’s another happy weekend of celebrations of birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, ordinations, professions, naming, etc! Congratulations to you all!
Brethren, HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE AIRPORT OR MOTOR PARK FROM A VERY FAR JOURNEY, ONLY TO FIND YOUR FAMILIES, FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES WAITING TO WELCOME YOU AND TAKE YOUR LUGGAGE HOME? OR WAITING WITH YOU PERHAPS FOR LONG HOURS TO SAY “GOODBYE AND SAFE TRIP” IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING. Again, How will u feel (those who have had their NYSC – “COPA-SHUN” will understand this better) if after the 3 Weeks Orientation Camp in a State you know no where; THE PRIEST CHAPLAIN OF CATHOLIC CORP MEMBERS, OR THE PASTORS OF THE OTHER DENOMINATIONS OR THE IMAN FOR THE MUSLIMS COMES TO PICK YOU TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND FROM THERE TO THE COPPER’S LODGE AND MAKE YOU FEEL AT HOME?
In the two instances, surely you will feel loved, cherished, belonged. This could also be described as the experience of the Israelites in the first reading today. God, the ever loving and caring Father, KEEPING NIGHT WATCH TO BRING THE ISRAELITES FROM THE LAND OF EGYPT (Ex 12:42) AFTER FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS WHICH THEY HAD LIVED IN EGYPT. God did this because they are His own people. He freely chose them to be the beneficiaries of His blessings and favours. He would assist and lead them, come to their rescue, protect them from enemies and assure them prosperity and peace, AS LONG AS THEY REMAINED FAITHFUL.
Beloved in Christ, DO YOU KNOW WE ARE THE NEW ISRAELITES AND BENEFICIARIES OF GOD’S GOODNESS AND BLESSINGS TOO? Christ has freed us from sin by our Baptism. BUT HAVE WE FREED OURSELVES?
Jean Jack Rousseau the great Philosopher said: MAN IS FREE, BUT ALWAYS IN CHAINS. Are we not in chains and slavery of our bad habits, social pressures, our upbringing, our complexes? Let us live in a way that reflects our status, not as Diabetic patients, not as HIV positive or negative, not as Cancer, Hypertensive patients, or any other vices of the world, but AS GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE.
Begin this journey by GOING FOR CONFESSION THIS MORNING OR THIS EVENING.
GOD WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU & HIS INSTRUMENTS (THE PRIESTS), ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
Peace be with you!
